Who remembers Lolly? How can you forget about Lolly? She was the late 90’s/early 00’s sensation that brought Toni Basil’s “Mickey” straight back to the UK Charts in 1999. Full of bubblegum pop with some iconic, unforgettable hits such as “Viva La Radio”, “Big Boys Don’t Cry”, and “Per Sempre Amore (Forever In Love)”; Lolly was a childhood favourite, and today sees her rerelease her albums digitally – that’s right, the albums “My First Album” and “Pick ‘n’ Mix” has hit download and streaming services today.
There has been a big buzz about this release as Lolly’s fans head to digital services to stream and download these two albums. They were previously only available through CD, but now people can get a hold of the songs by just a simple click of a button.
Lolly, real name Anna Kumble, launched in 1999 with the song “Viva La Radio”. She toured with the likes of Steps and 5ive, covered the Toni Basil song “Mickey” – becoming her biggest hit to-date and reintroducing the song to 90s/00s kids. She went on to release beautiful ballad “Big Boys Don’t Cry” as a double A-side single with a cover of Bobby Day’s “Rockin’ Robin” which was made famous by Michael Jackson. Most of these singles appear on her first album “My First Album” which hit number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. Her second album “Pick ‘n’ Mix” was a lot less successful but saw her move towards a more grown-up pop style. Two singles were released, the still-a-jam-today single “Per Sempre Amore (Forever In Love)” and a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. All 5 singles charted within the UK Top 20 Singles Chart – which is something many artists just hope to achieve nowadays.
After her sophomore album, she parted ways with Polydor records and went down the presenting route, appearing on children’s TV show Xchange as well as standing in for Anna Williamson on Toonattik on CiTV. Her career since has consisted of West End shows, pantomimes, and other stage appearances. She will be on stage at Chesterfield Pride on 22 July 2018, alongside Big Brovaz, Booty Luv, and The Hara.

If you are looking for must-listen tracks then we highly recommend all the singles she officially released, “Viva La Radio”, “Mickey”, “Big Boys Don’t Cry”, “Rockin’ Robin”, “Per Sempre Amore (Forever In Love)”, and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”; but there are some amazing album tracks that deserved to have been released as singles. Some of these tracks are even better than the ones she released officially, so make sure you check out “Kiss Kiss Boom Boom”, “Internet Love”, “Telephone Boy”, “Do You Feel Like I Feel?”, “It Never Rains But It Pours”, “999”, “Ti Amo”, and “Twisting Roads”.
This isn’t the only exciting news Lolly had in store for us. Those of you who have been following her on Twitter will know that she recently visited the studio to work on new music – that is right, new music from Lolly might be on its way. Not only that, she also asked her fans on Twitter if they would like to hear a cover song or an original track; we’re so ready to hear Lolly singing something new. Could Lolly make a successful comeback? We think she can.
