The Brazen are an Indie-Rock group consisting of Ryan Hobbs, Rob Clayton, Ben Fairbairn, Trev Phillips and Adam Larner. The five piece group have just released their new single ‘Delusion‘ and are also currently touring around the UK.
Here we chat exclusively to The Brazen about their latest release, tour, plus future plans.
How excited are you about the release of your new single ‘Delusion’?
Extremely! It seems like a really long time since we recorded the track and it is so amazing people finally get to hear what we have produced.
How much do you think your sound has developed over the years?
There is a clear progression in the music we have produced this time around in comparison to the album we released last year. Whilst we love those songs they had been around for a long time internally, and although ‘Delusion’ has also been knocking around for a little while we have added new lyrics and guitar parts to freshen it up – and it grew into a huge track
How would you describe your sound to somebody who hasn’t yet listened to your music?
Big and anthemic!
You’ve been compared to the likes of Kings of Leon and U2, how does that feel?
It’s a dream to be spoken about in the same sentence as huge bands like that, Kings of Leon are particularly influential on us as song writers – and the next tracks you hear from us will portray that. One song in particular is very Kings Of Leon-esque! Which can only be a good thing – their latest album is amazing, as is every one of their albums. And we had the pleasure of seeing them recently live too.
What was the inspiration behind your new track?
I felt let down by certain important people in my life, felt I deserved better around a number of situations, and therefore the message is you don’t need others, you only need you to succeed. ‘Delusion’ I guess is based around incorrect perceptions, and that you shouldn’t be afraid to push people away who want to break you down. Be strong, move forward, but the Delusion is people not being able to comprehend the strength you have.
You’re also touring at the moment, how are you enjoying being on the road?
Yeah! We love gigging and doing shows, meeting people and getting out and about around the UK – we did a huge Leeds gig recently and there is nothing like a big crowd partying with you. Best feeling in the world!
What can fans expect from your live shows?
Energy! We always put on a show, whether there are 6 people or 600 in a venue, we treat it in the same manner – it’s our chance to show the world who we are.
If you could collaborate with any singer/band who would you choose?
Wow! Now this one is tough. There are so many people to choose from……for me my hero is Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics, and I also love Caleb from Kings of Leon – but I’m going to say Dave Grohl, as I’ve watched his Sound City documentary, and I think we would all enjoy a trip to collaborate on the Neve mixing desk of his!
What would be your dream venue to perform at?
I’m going to say the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas! I was fortunate enough to go to Diaz v McGregor 2 there last August, and it’s an amazing venue – plus the after party in Las Vegas would be truly something else…
What do you hope to achieve in the next ten years?
Everything we can! There is no set goal, just to progress and grow – have people enjoy the music we make and respect us for that…and 5 Grammys too!
